Back from the races

Cielito Lindo Baja 500 race crew report

We started out from Cielito Lindo at 8am. Mike & Nina led the way (potluck coleslaw), then Dave & Juanita (brats), Randy, Marty & Miracle& DosXX (beans), Paul, Bob, Alex & Dawg (watermelon and buns), Mike & Michelle (veggies & dip), Joe, Kay, &Annies (smoked chicken, spaghetti). Denise was feeling poorly but sent stuffed celery, Yuma John sent potato salad by Sandy even though they and the grandkids were headed back to Yuma as John was also feeling poorly. Bill & Ruth stayed home to do chores.
Anyway loaded up with lots of food and snacks, we were off to the races. About 11/2 hours later we pulled up to the pit areas but only pit crews were being allowed in so we went to plan “B” and moved a short way down the road and set up camp. Sky was cloudy but soon was sunny. About noon Chef Randy BBQ’d the brats and we had a great lunch. Watched motorcycles and quads come thru until about 1:30 when the helicopters came into view. We knew the fast running trophy trucks were not far behind. We were soon in the midst of screaming engines and lots of dust. This was the first Baja race for Nina and Michelle so they were right next to the track, rooting the drivers on, and eating lots of dust.
We were all pretty tuckered out so we broke camp about 5. Dave & Juanita and Mike and Michelle went to spend the night at Meling Ranch and everyone else headed home.
